Back to training and looking forward
Its been two weeks since my last competition, and I am now getting back to putting more miles in across all three disciplines. Something I was unable to do whilst competing as I always began the week needing a recovery period and then finished the week with one eye on trying to keep fresh for the upcoming event.
7 events back to back created a system that was not conducive to maintaining a balance between training and competing and as a result I feel my results began to suffer. Particularly the swim and run legs where my results were sporadic and not what I knew I was capable of. Nevertheless I can’t deny I enjoyed every minute – apart from Dambuster where I had a bit of a mare.
I have learnt an important lesson this year and it is to be more specific with what you enter and what you want to achieve. I may have saved money by entering over black Friday but ultimately I spent more on travelling, accommodation and I have missed out on training rides – which I didn’t realise how much I missed.
Looking forward I know the next few weeks will be all about picking up where I left off and getting solid mileage in to begin to regain fitness in preparation for the next events. I have some exciting events coming up and with good breaks in between the races, which will allow me to maintain training consistency and continue to make further progress.
The events I have coming up are as follows -
A 3km open water swim at Marlow – A good chance to gauge my fitness across a longer swim distance and to hopefully see an improvement in my open water technique, something I have been working on over the last few weeks.
The London Triathlon – one of the biggest events I did last year. I will be returning to race in the capital, but this time I will be in the draft legal ELITE wave. So happy to make the step up and try keep up with some of the best triathletes in the country.
Worthing Triathlon – 2017 European Championships qualifier. I did this event last year to get my spot at Lisbon, and this time I will be aiming to secure my spot again with another solid performance on the south coast. 2017 is in Dusseldorf and I am confident in my ability to perform well and be on the plane.
2016 World Championships in Cozumel, Mexico. You know that race I said I had a mare in (Dambuster). Well I have been fortunate and others have pulled out, giving me the opportunity to once again represent at a International triathlon event. This will be my first world champs and despite the large expense of getting everything sorted to get there I will be on the plane (for a million hours) to Mexico.

All in all, I still have a busy race calendar for the rest of 2016 and I hope to raise my game to make the most of the opportunities I have been given. I am also looking for potential associations with brands and companies who want to use my events as a platform to promote their brand.
